1986 Ford Mustang LX Notchback
I purchased the car for $ 200 in July of 1997 when I was 16. It was a 4-banger which was not enough for me. The only good thing about the car was the body. In the fall of 1998 I bought a 79 pace car for the motor and trany. I bought an 8.8 rearend out of a junkyard already equipped with the 3.73 gears. The motor was a stock 302HO. I drove and raced it like that for a year. That setup won me 1999 Street Ford Class on Fun Ford Weekend at New England Dragway. My best run was a 14.74, not bad for a stock motor. Then in the fall of 1999 the state announced all cars would have to pass emissions starting on January 2000. There was no way I could get my car to pass for a 86 GT because 86's were fuel injected and mine was carbureted. So I decided I wanted to make my car strictly a racecar. So I went to see Karl of Karl's East Coast Speed. Karl built me a 351W, did all the major modification and gave me a lot of advice that helped my father, my brother, and me build my race car. |
